Elector-galvanized wire (EG wire) is carbon steel wire coated with a thin layer of zinc through an electrolytic process. This coating protects the base metal from corrosion, enhances durability, and provides a smooth, bright finish.

1. Material

Base Metal: Low-carbon steel wire rod (typically ASTM A641, ISO 7989-1, or equivalent).

 Coating: High-purity zinc (99%+), applied electrolytic-ally.

Coating Mass: Typically 550 g/m² (thinner than hot-dip galvanizing).

Surface: Smooth, uniform, and bright/silver-gray. Ideal for applications requiring aesthetics.

Corrosion Resistance: Moderate protection (suited for indoor/mild environments).

2. Production Process

The elector-galvanizing process involves:

1. Wire Drawing:

Steel wire rod is drawn through dies to achieve the target diameter.

2. Cleaning & Pretreatment:

Alkaline degreasing Acid pickling (HCl/HSO) Rinsing Fluxing.

3. Electroplating:

Wire passes through an electrolyte bath (zinc sulfate/cyanide solution).

Acts as the cathode; zinc anodes dissolve via electrolysis.

Zinc ions bond to the wire surface under electric current.

4. Rinsing & Drying:

Removes residual chemicals; wire is dried.

5. Passivation (Optional):

Chromate or non-chromate treatment to enhance corrosion resistance (e.g., blue, yellow, or clear passivate).

6. Spooling/Coiling:

Finished wire is wound onto spools or coils.
