Welded steel pipe is also known as welded pipe, is made of steel plate or strip after curling forming steel pipe. Welded steel pipe production process is simple, high production efficiency, variety of specifications, less equipment, but the general strength is lower than seamless steel pipe. Since the 1930s, with the rapid development of continuous rolling production of high quality strip steel and the progress of welding and inspection technology, the quality of welding seam has been continuously improved. Welded steel pipe is divided into straight welded pipe and spiral welded pipe according to the form of welding seam.

The blank used for welding steel pipe is steel plate or strip steel, which can be divided into furnace welded pipe, electric welding (resistance welding) pipe and automatic arc welding pipe due to different welding processes. Due to the different welding forms, it is divided into two types: straight welded pipe and spiral welded pipe. Because of its end shape is divided into circular welded pipe and shaped (square, flat, etc.) welded pipe. The welded pipes are divided into the following varieties due to their different materials and USES:

GB/ t3091-1993 (galvanized welded steel pipe for low-pressure fluid transport). Mainly used for water, gas, air, oil and heating hot water or steam, such as the general lower pressure fluid and other purposes. Its representative material is Q235A grade steel.

Construction Welded Steel Pipe

GB/ t14291-1992 (welded steel pipe for fluid transport in mines). It is mainly used for straight seam welding steel pipe for mine pressure wind, drainage and shaft gas discharge. Its representative material Q235A, B grade steel. Large diameter electric welded steel pipe for low pressure fluid transport. Mainly used for conveying low pressure fluid such as water, sewage, gas, air, heating steam and other USES. Its representative material is Q235A grade steel.

GB/ t12771-1991 (welded stainless steel pipe for fluid transport). Mainly used for conveying low pressure corrosive medium. The representative materials are 0Cr13, 0Cr19Ni9, 00Cr19Ni11, 00Cr17, 0Cr18Ni11Nb, 0017Cr17Ni14Mo2, etc.

Direct seam welded pipe production process is simple, high production efficiency, low cost, rapid development. The strength of spiral welded pipe is generally higher than that of straight welded pipe. The welded pipe with larger diameter can be produced with narrow blank, and the welded pipe with different diameter can also be produced with the same width of blank. However, compared with the same length of straight seam pipe, the weld length increases by 30~100%, and the production speed is lower.

Therefore, the smaller diameter welded pipe mostly adopts straight seam welding, while the larger diameter welded pipe mostly adopts spiral welding.
